Longevity · Preventative performance

Stay capable, independent and resilient.

Longevity at Peak Centre is approached through objective assessment, applied exercise physiology and evidence-based training.

Rather than generalized wellness advice or unmeasured anti-aging trends, we maintain and improve the measurable capacities most strongly associated with long-term health, function and quality of life, in our sport science and exercise physiology centre in Kanata, Ottawa.

What longevity means

Not simply living longer. Living well, for longer.

Longevity is about maintaining physical capacity, independence and resilience over time. Research consistently shows that people who preserve aerobic fitness, strength, metabolic health and movement quality age more successfully and keep a higher quality of life.

Why Peak Centre

Decades with the highest-performing athletes in the world.

For more than 30 years our sport science and exercise physiology team has developed testing protocols and training models for elite and professional athletes. The systems that let them perform are the same systems that decide how well we age.

If we can guide and protect these capacities in athletes at the highest physiological demands, we can do the same, appropriately and safely, for people focused on long-term health.

  • Protocols refined in high-performance sport
  • Objective measurement of key physiological systems
  • Long-term training models designed to preserve capacity
  • Experience balancing peak performance with sustainable progression
Who it is for

Is longevity training right for you?

Adults seeking to maintain performance and physical capacity with age
Former or aging athletes transitioning training priorities
Professionals focused on long-term health, resilience and energy
Anyone interested in anti-aging through exercise and physiology, not supplements or trends
Clients who want data-driven guidance rather than generalized fitness advice
Anyone pursuing preventative strategies to reduce avoidable decline

Every longevity program is individualized from your assessment, training history and long-term goals.

The assessments

A clear picture of where you are today.

Tap an assessment to read about it. Assessments are selected for relevance, not bundled unnecessarily.

Aerobic capacity and cardiovascular

VO2 max and submaximal cardiovascular testing give insight into aerobic fitness, cardiovascular efficiency and exercise tolerance, key predictors of long-term health and mortality risk.

Blood lactate and training zones

Blood lactate testing identifies sustainable training intensities and recovery capacity. Combined with metabolic data from cardiovascular testing, it sets precise aerobic training zones and long-term progression without unnecessary physiological stress.

Strength, power and neuromuscular

Force platform testing and EMG analysis evaluate how force is produced and controlled, helping preserve strength, power and coordination, critical components of healthy aging.

Body composition and structure

Body composition and 3D scanning track muscle mass, fat distribution and the physical changes that influence metabolic health and functional capacity.

Resting metabolic rate

RMR testing gives an accurate measure of resting energy needs, supporting nutrition and training strategies that preserve lean mass, metabolic health and long-term energy balance.

Why measure first

Decline is often sped up by guesswork.

Inappropriate training, too little recovery, or relying on assumptions rather than data can accelerate age-related decline. Without objective assessment, people may train too hard, too little, or in ways that compromise long-term outcomes.

Precision, consistency and informed progression.

Measuring first lets us
  • Identify priorities for training focus
  • Individualize intensity and volume
  • Preserve aerobic capacity and strength
  • Reduce avoidable injury or burnout risk
  • Track meaningful physiological change over time
How it works

Three simple steps, then we keep going.

Assess

Objective testing of the systems that matter for your goals, chosen for relevance, never bundled.

Review

Your results are reviewed with an exercise physiologist, in the context of your long-term health and performance goals.

Train and reassess

Individualized training, guidance on intensity, volume and recovery, and planned reassessment to track change.

Longevity assessment is not a one-time event. It is part of a structured, ongoing approach to maintaining physical capacity across your lifespan.

Longevity training

Precise, individualized training. No guesswork.

Your training zones are set from several physiological markers, combining metabolic data with blood lactate, rather than predicted values. Many clinics rely on VO2 max alone and estimate zones from equations. Our approach was developed over more than 30 years with Olympic and National Team athletes.

Knowing how long and how often to train at each intensity matters as much as the intensity itself, so your program is both effective and efficient.

With your results, we
  • Pinpoint individualized aerobic and metabolic training zones
  • Prescribe intensities that are effective and sustainable
  • Set the duration and frequency needed to reach specific goals
  • Optimize cardiovascular and metabolic adaptation without unnecessary stress
  • Eliminate wasted training time and unnecessary hours in the gym
Training focuses on
  • Sustainable aerobic conditioning
  • Progressive, individualized strength training
  • Neuromuscular efficiency and movement quality
  • Appropriate recovery and load management
  • Long-term progression rather than short-term outcomes
Your choice of format

Train the way that suits you.

Independent

Program design, you train on your own

Our exercise physiologists design an individualized program from your assessment and goals, with clear guidance on intensity, session length, frequency and progression.

DIY training plans
Supervised

Personal training and supervised sessions

Hands-on coaching, real-time adjustment of intensity and volume, and structured accountability.

Personal trainers
Hybrid

Independent training with periodic supervised sessions

Flexibility with precision, and a program refined as your fitness, physiology and goals evolve.

Hypoxic training

Refined through decades in elite sport and prescribed for the individual. It may support aerobic efficiency and cardiovascular adaptation, give a metabolic stimulus at lower mechanical loads, and add variety while managing joint stress.

Infrared saunas

Peak Centre is a distributor of Saunacore, a maker of premium far infrared and traditional saunas. Used alongside exercise, infrared sauna sessions may support relaxation, circulation and recovery between training sessions.

A sauna complements exercise, aerobic conditioning and strength training. It does not replace them.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Is longevity training the same as anti-aging?+

Longevity and anti-aging goals often overlap. At Peak Centre, anti-aging is addressed through measurable, trainable physiological systems rather than unproven interventions.

Is this a medical service?+

No. Longevity services at Peak Centre are fitness and performance-based and grounded in exercise physiology. They are not diagnostic or medical treatments.

Is longevity training only for older adults?+

No. Longevity strategies are most effective when started proactively. Many clients begin in their 30s, 40s or 50s to preserve capacity before significant decline occurs.

How often should longevity assessments be repeated?+

It depends on your goals and training changes. Some clients reassess annually; others reassess after meaningful changes in training or body composition.
